Synopsis: There are two kinds of people in this world-those who follow the rules and those who do not think twice about breaking them. The book is the story of aspirations and dreams of a middle-class woman named Veda. A studious, smart, and sincere girl is the eldest among her four siblings who live with her parents in a small town, Joshimath on the foothills of Himalayas. Veda harbors big dreams for the future but when she turns up 20, her parents set-up an arranged marriage for her and discovers that she has no say in the matter.

Forced to leave behind an idyllic life in the hill town of Joshimath filled with conversation and pleasurable times with her siblings, and her best friend Suraj -she put aside her ambitions and moves into a flat in Pune with an indifferent husband and a mother-in-law from hell. Though brought up to be quiet and obedient, Veda chafes at the meaninglessness of her existence and struggles to cope with the unexpected loneliness she is engulfed in. Then, amidst the dark clouds of stagnation and despondency, Veda carves out the unlikeliest of silver linings.

THE RULE BREAKERS is a well written and engaging read. Shenoy brings alive the characters and settings with her flawless writing and storytelling skills. Overall the story is ripe, rich, and quite mature.
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE.
